Did You Know Facial Oils are Beneficial for All Skin Types?

Did You Know Facial Oils are Beneficial for All Skin Types?

Posted by Tori Paide on

When we look to moisturize our skin, the immediate reaction is to buy the latest cream. We don't even consider facial oils to hydrate our skin.

Using and purchasing "moisturizing creams" is the skincare error most women make. Here's why:

Creams Don’t Moisturize the Way Facial Oils Do

The issue is the majority of cream-based moisturizers are just water and wax. When you apply a cream moisturizer to your face you apply a layer of wax over your skin. Wax is not easily absorbed into the skin which causes two problems:

  • Deep skin layers are not properly moisturized
  • Wax clogs and congests your pores
  • The healing benefits of the seed, carrier, and essential oils aren't penetrated

When oily, acneic and combination skin is not properly moisturized, the skin’s natural response is to secrete more oil. This can become problematic since the excess oil production may clog pores and is the perfect recipe for breakouts.

Even for normal to dry skin types may not be properly nourished because wax-based moisturizers may create a barrier that prevents the essential moisturizing ingredients from penetrating the skin.

This is why we love facial oil-they penetrate beyond the surface of the skin to the lipid barrier where skin issues start. The key vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids in facial oils work immediately to replenish lost oils from dehydration, imbalanced diets, and aging. Facial oils also aide to strengthen the lipid barrier to protect it from sun damage and environmental pollutants all while decongesting your pores.

Before you grab the trendiest facial oil hitting the market, keep reading.

Not All Facial Oils are Created Equal

If you're not already reading labels of your products, then it’s time to start turning bottles over. The FDA does not approve chemicals in products, for all you know you could be putting a toxic oil on your skin.

Your skin readily absorbs oil, thus any toxins in the oil will be absorbed into your bloodstream!

Scary!

Health is much more than diet and exercise, it’s also about what you put on your skin. Nobody should put harmful chemicals on their body!

Our mission is to educate you on how to properly choose products that are not only safe but effective as well.

In terms of facial oils you should AVOID using products with:

  • Synthetic Fragrance: If it says “fragrance” it’s a chemical.
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil: This type of coconut oil is too thick for the skin. and causes congestion.
  • Cocoa or Shea Butter: These oils can be used for very dry skin but are thick and can cause congestion even on drier skin types.
  • Sesame Oil: This oil can causes congestion as well as allergic reactions.

What should you look for in a facial oil? There are many hero ingredients out there, so it really just depends on your needs.
